Leftist, Right-Wing & Alt-Right Vegans

I wanted to do a really quick video to shed some light on a very particular topic that often comes up.

Time and again I’ve argued that veganism is apolitical, meaning it is neither left-wing nor right-wing. And I stand by that claim!

Nowhere in the definition of “vegan” does it imply ANY particular political ideology. All that is required is that you do not consume nor use animal products. Pretty goddamned simplistic.

However, I’ve always just assumed that more liberals gravitated toward the vegan lifestyle than conservatives. And I think it is fair to say that I am far from alone in that very sentiment.

But, for the sake of accuracy, does any evidence actually exist to support that sentiment?

Well, I did some digging.

Unfortunately, I did not find any data pertaining to veganism, but I did uncover two studies pertaining to vegetarianism. At least it gives us some idea of what we COULD expect.

According to a 2011 study by Hunch.com, 10% of liberals surveyed, out of 700,000 total participants, indicated that they were vegetarian. Whereas 3% of conservatives did.

According to a 2012 Gallup study on 1,014 people aged 18 and older, 7% of liberals identified as vegetarian, whereas 5% of conservatives did.

It would appear that roughly 3-5% of conservatives, when polled, identify as vegetarian. Versus 7-10% of liberals.

So, yes, there are at least twice-as-many liberals that do not consume meat compared to conservatives — but, conservatives certainly aren’t non-existant either.

Of course, I’d love to see research like this done on veganism specifically. Or maybe some already does exist? If you know of any, please link it in the comments.

Since making my political stance known, I’ve kinda hoped my channel would double as not only a haven for vegans who want to get jacked and strong, but also a place where right-leaning vegans can feel at home.

Especially when it can feel very lonely out there as a right-wing vegan.

But, we DO exist. Two of us are pictured right here… no, not Lauren Southern. But, Lauren did seem receptive to the idea when we chatted about it at a Starbucks last weekend.

And, no, we didn’t just talk about veganism. But, yes, it inevitably came up with two vegans present.

Anyhow, let me know what you all think in the comments below.
